Roby Junior Grose, 83

Roby Junior Grose, 83, of Big Run, died Friday, June 13, 2014, at home.

He was born Sept. 9, 1930, in Crumpler, West Virginia, the son of the late Roby and Kathleen Letha (Hager) Grose.

He was Protestant by faith.

On June 6, 1953, he married Ruby Jean London. She preceded him in death on Feb. 15, 1986.

He then married Sharon Leone (Bausch) Derise on May 26, 1990. She survives.

Mr. Grose previously worked as the Jefferson County Conservation District manager; he was also a New York Life Insurance agent, but at heart, he was a dairy and beef farmer.

Roby had served on various committees, such as the Gaskill Township
Planning Committee, the Jefferson County Planning Committee and the Punxsutawney Airport Authority.

He was a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and the Past and Present Machinery Association.

His enjoyments were his family, farming, airplanes and World War II

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Karen Burkett and husband Dan of Punxsutawney, Glen Grose and wife Mindy of Punxsutawney, Cathy Hake and husband Harold of York, Theresa Bowser and husband Dan of Punxsutawney, Stan Derise and wife Heather of Big Run, and Philip Derise and wife Amber of Engleside, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Jenica Burkett, Jeffrey Grose, Amanda Wetzel, Matthew, Benjamin and Danielle Bowser, Riley and Aiden McLaughlin, Mary Schwartz, Hannah Hughes and Vivian Derise; five great-grandchildren, Blake and Emma Burkett, Ruby Grose, Evan Sproat and Annabelle Wetzel; and one sister, Loretta Martin of Spencer Port, New York.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and three grandsons, Devin Burkett, Bradley Grose and Bailey Lynn Bowser.

Friends will be received from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2014, and Monday, June 16, 2014, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Dawn Krishart.

Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Grose's memory to the Big Run Volunteer Fire Company, Willow Run Santuary or Gateway Humane Society.
