John Robert Bazella Sr., 66

John Robert Bazella Sr., 66, Rossiter, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at home.

He was born Dec. 27, 1945, in New Kensington, a son of the late John Casmier and Olive Bertha (Daugherty) Bazella.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having faithfully served his country in Vietnam during the Vietnam War, where he was also exposed to Agent Orange that caused years of health issues that he refused to let keep him down.

Oct. 18, 1968, he married Judith Anne Heinsen, who survives.

In 1997, he and his wife moved to the 250-acre family farm in Rossiter.
Mr. Bazella was a true farmer at heart, which was his first and most-loved profession. He had a great respect and love of the earth and animals. He enjoyed planting and harvesting and always planted more than he could ever use in order to share with others who truly had a need.
He loved his cows and stray animals. He took care of everything and everybody who surrounded him.

He worked in the coal mines and received the Joseph Holmes Award for Heroism for pulling a fellow miner to safety and saving his life.

He was later self employed at J. Bazella Concrete and Construction and worked very hard and was dedicated to jobs of perfection and huge proportions, such as airport runways.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include seven children, John R. Bazella Jr. and wife Amy of Saltsburg, Justin Bazella and wife Brandi of Emmaus, Tracy Black and husband Dan of Apollo, Julie Lewandowski and husband Eddie of Vandergrift, Lorrie Bazella and husband Joe Elliott of Leechburg, Sarah Karns and husband Ralph of Vandergrift, and Mindy Schrecengost and husband Josh of Montana; 21 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Bazella and wife Abby of Georgia and Dan Bazella and wife Margie of Mamont; two sisters, Connie Portella and husband Louis of New Jersey and Linda Alworth of Leechburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In honor of his wishes, Mr. Bazella was buried at sunset Saturday, Feb, 11, 2012, on the family farm in the John R. Bazella Family Cemetery, Canoe Township, Indiana County.
