Elmer L. Hughes, 88

Elmer L. Hughes, 88, Westover, passed away Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at Clearfield Hospital.
Mr. Hughes was born Sept. 5, 1922. in La Jose, a son of the late Bert J. Hughes and Willimina (Young) Hughes.
He married Beverly June (Cullen) Hughes, May 12, 1951, who survives.

He was a member of the East Ridge United Methodist Church, the Harmony Grange # 1201, Coalport Lodge # 574 and F.A.M. 33rd Degree.

He was a 1940 graduate of Cherry Tree High School. A bus driver for Harmony Area Schools for many years, Mr. Hughes and his brother owned and operated a Bolens Dealership. He drove tractor trailer for Willis Cree & Piolet Freight and was a heavy equipment operator Benjamin Coal Co. Mr. Hughes drove truck for North American Comunication and Northern Cambria Fuel.  He earned his pilot's license in his younger years.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hughes is survived by two sons, David Leroy Hughes of Burnside and Kenneth Eugene and wife Adele of Glen Campbell; two daughters, Joanne Marie Salsgiver and husband Rev. Dr. Thomas of Lewisburg and Carol Ann Fox and husband Brian of Harmony; one brother, William Thomas Hughes of La Jose; three sisters, Rose Ann Dixon and Virginia Jackson, both of Philipsburg, and Susan Braniff of Mineral City Ohio; eight grandchildren; Rebecca Marie Conrath and husband Daniel of Lake City Fl., Pastor Brent Salsgiver and wife Elizabeth of West Decatur, Alicia and husband Frank Catanese of New Berg,  N.C., Marcy Farmery of Rossiter,  Mark William Fox of Indiana, Cynthia Ann Fox of Ashville, Kristine Durbin and husband John of Gallitizen and Brian Joseph Fox; four great-grandchildren, Madison, Gavon and Owen Durbin of Gallitzen, and Mason Smith Salsgiver of West Decatur; 17 nieces and nephews; and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Alveretta Greene-Seabring and Sarah Jane McKee.
Friends will be received today, Feb. 7, 2011, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Waldron Funeral Home, Mahaffey.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at Harmony East Ridge United Methodist Church, with Pastor Matthew Blake officiating.
Private interment will follow at Harmony Cemetery.
