Concert association begins campaign for new season

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Following its March 14 concert featuring the Side Street Strutters, the Punxsutawney Concert Association has begun its subscription campaign to enlist support for the 2013-2014 season.

The new season of performances by visiting musicians and entertainers will continue a tradition of live concerts begun in the late 1930s in the area.

The anticipated 2013-2014 season will introduce area subscription members, patrons and benefactors to three shows of new talent and uniqueness.
The season will begin in September 2013 with The Gothard Sisters.

In October, Punxsutawney area concert subscribers will experience the sights and sounds of modern-day technology when two brothers from Maine, who have created “AudioBody,” will present their blend of music and futuristic sounds in a “dazzling” stage show.

In March 2014, the concert series will conclude with pianist Dale Gonyea, a man of many talents that include classical piano, comedy and song writing.

For several years, in the early part of the campaign in the spring, the association has been offering area residents its “Early Bird Special” of reduced individual adult subscriptions.

The limited-time promotion for the season, $40 for the three concerts, will end on June 1. After that, an annual adult subscription is $45.

The association offers free admission for students when accompanied by an adult member. And by reciprocal agreement, a membership in Punxsy entitles the card holder to outstanding concerts in DuBois and Lewistown at no additional cost.

For more information contact Bessie Depp, subscription chairperson, at 938-5333, or Thomas Curry, at 938-8628.

Subscription brochures, with applications, are available at the concert campaign headquarters at Trailhead Gallery in downtown Punxsutawney.

Interested people may also submit a completed application that appears in today’s print edition of The Spirit.
