May 30, 1888
A terrific wind storm passed over this place last Monday afternoon about 3 o'clock, frightening the inhabitants out of their wits and destroying a good deal of property.
The roof was blown off the tripple at Horatio mines, killing a mule.
A portion of the roof of Hon. J.U. Gillespie's barn in Claysville, was carried off.
The grand stand at the fair grounds was unroofed, as was also the barns of Christ Weiss and Mrs. J.D. Phillippi.
Quite a number of shade trades in town were destroyed, and several chimneys rattled down.
A dispatch from Brookville says that considerable damage was done there, and reports from McCalmont township are to the effect that orchards and fences and barns were wrecked and ruined there in great numbers.
In Big Run the storm did not rage so fiercely, contenting itself with the destruction of one of Dr. Cox's shade trees. A good deal of damage was done in the vicinity of Brockwayville.
B.K. Fisher, of the American House, Brookville, is making great preparations to celebrate the glorious Fourth.
He will have a great quantity of fire works of all kinds, and will spare neither pains or expenses to provide amusements of all kinds for the people.
He will also make preparations to entertain and feed with the best the market affords an unlimited number of guests. He will give a grand dinner, and not charge you much for it, either.
As they say out West, there are no dies on B.K. Fisher.
