Harold R. Pearce, 85, of Punxsutawney, died Friday, April 25, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Sept. 3, 1928, in Punxsutawney, the son of the late Warren and Bessie (Neal) Pearce.
He was married to Louise Couch on Nov. 5, 1949. She preceded him in death on Aug. 1, 1978.
He then married Irene Martz on Dec. 8, 1979, in Punxsutawney.
He retired in 1990 as the Plant Manager of D.G. Mock Oil Company in
Punxsutawney and also served for years as a Punxsutawney Police Officer.
He was a 50-year member of the Woodland Avenue United Methodist Church and served the church in various offices.
He was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Punxsutawney Elks Lodge No. 301.
He was also a member of the Punxsutawney Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Odd Fellows, Sunshine Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons, Coundersport Consistory and Jaffa Shrine.
He was an Honorary Board Member of the Pearce Cemetery Association, and he served as the youngest member on the Board of the Punxsutawney Area School Jointure Committee and also served on the Punxsutawney Borough Council.
He was the oldest member, a life member and Past President of the
Punxsutawney Lions Club and was a former Lion of the Year.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; two sons, Kenneth H. Pearce and wife Anne of Punxsutawney and Randal R. Pearce and wife Jinni of Severn, Md.; one daughter, Sandra Smith and husband John of Punxsutawney; and two step-sons, Larry Evans and wife Carol of Brookville, and Dennis Evans and wife Darlene of Punxsutawney.
He is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy Kemp of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Ruby Harrold and husband Tony of Warren, Ohio; and one sister-in-law, Jean Pearce of Warren, Ohio.
He is also survived by six grandchildren, Dana Pearce, Dona Munro, Chango Pearce, Lisa Pearce, Joe Pearce and Lindsay Woodbury; two step-grandchildren, Dana Domino and Jessie Evans; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his special friends and neighbors, Ed and Pam Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Warren Pearce, Jr. and an infant brother.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2014, at the Richard L. Fait Funeral Home in Punxsutawney, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014.
The Punxsutawney Elks will hold a Memorial Service on Monday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Masonic Funeral Service at 7:30 p.m., and a Lions Club Memorial Service at 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014, with the Rev. Alfred H. Kimmel officiating.
Interment will follow at the Pearce Cemetery near Rossiter.
The family requests that donations in memory of Harold be made to the Woodland Avenue United Methodist Church or the Punxsutawney Lions Club.
