YOUNG TOWNSHIP — Is there such a thing as a a free lunch? Maybe, maybe not; but how about free clothing?
The answer is a resounding yes!
Free Clothing Days are back this week at the First Church Of God in Punxsutawney.
Shelley Rowan, coordinator of Free Clothing Days, said this is the sixth year for the popular clothing giveaway.
"What has made this so successful is the high quality of the clothing that has been donated to the drive in the fall and spring over the years," Rowan said, adding that all of the clothing is gently worn, and there's no limit to what you may take home.
She said one change for this year is that those who come to the free clothing grab must bring their own bags or laundry baskets to transport the items home.
Rowan said they make it very easy for patrons to come and check out the free clothing items.
"Everything is well-marked, and we've added two more racks for coats, suits, dresses and other items on hangers for easier viewing," Rowan said. "There are no items out in the hallway, which makes browsing easier."
She said some of the items the event will have include maternity clothing, scrubs and all sizes of clothing items for every woman, man and child.
"We've got coats for every body in every size and shape," she said. "The gym at First Church of God is full, and typically when we're done, the place is cleaned out."
Free clothing days are from 2 to 5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday in the First Church of God gym on Skyview Drive in Young Township, adjacent to Route 36.
Rowan said the last day to drop off clothing is Thursday, and all clothing must be gently worn and clean.
Undergarments must be new and still in the package to be accepted as a donation.
Rowan also wants to remind everyone that Free Clothing Days will be back again in the spring.
