PUNXSUTAWNEY — Sure, you know about the Pirates 20-year losing streak coming to an end this year, but did you know that the boys' golf team had a streak of its own?
The last time the Chucks lost at Punxsutawney Country Club to a District IX opponent was Sept. 18, 2006, when Brookville defeated Punxsy 160-171.
Seven years and one day later, it happened again.
The only problem is, this one cost them a berth for the AML Championship against Ridgway.
By just one stroke (174-173), the Raiders ended the streak and advanced to face Ridgway.
"Hats off to Brookville," head coach Josh Conrad said. "They're a a great group of kids, and we hope they give Ridgway a great match in the AML Championship."
Conrad said that following the match, his team was at a loss for words.
"The guys were at a loss after the match. It's tough to lose by that close of a margin, because they think back to the one stroke they wanted back," Conrad said. "This has been a tough week, and I keep telling them that if we're going to have a tough week, this is a good week to pick."
Brandon Mancuso once again led the way for the Chucks, shooting a plus-two 39.
Logan Reed had a solid day, shooting a 42, while Eli Thompson shot a 46.
Austin Milton and Brandon Blose both shot under 50, with a 46 and 49 respectively, to keep the Chucks in it, while Nick Voris shot a 56.
The Raiders had low scores around, including Jack Huggins with a plus-three 40.
"It's been great watching [Jack] Huggins grow up and turn into the great golfer he is today," Conrad said. "I wish him well in the District IX Championships, and I hope he makes it all the way to states."
Jacob McLaughlin (42), Jordan Tosh (45), Tate Canavan (46), Levi Roseman (47) and Corey Byerly (55) completed the scoring.
The Chucks will travel to Bradford on Monday to compete in districts.
