PERRY TOWNSHIP — Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police released no further details on Monday concerning a homicide investigation resulting from the recovery of human remains found Sunday in Mahoning Creek off of Miller Road in the village of Hamilton in Perry Township.
Late Sunday night, PSP-Punxsy said that the case had been deemed a homicide investigation, and that the remains located were those of a white male.
Scanner reports made it clear that the dive team from the Punxsutawney Fire Department, which had assisted with the recovery Sunday night, was back on scene Monday morning after stopping the search late Sunday night, but no further findings were reported.
Police said Jefferson County Coroner Bernard Snyder, who was on scene Sunday night, recovered the remains, and according to a report released by the Associated Press on Monday afternoon, Snyder’s office said that officials had a tentative identification of the remains, but there was no confirmed identification yet.
Snyder was contacted by The Spirit Monday night and reported that there was no new information to release.
