PUNXSUTAWNEY — Instead of a dead ringer, you can be a live ringer if you attend the The Silver Ring Thing (SRT) Rewind Tour to be held at 7 p.m. today at Punxsutawney Area High School Auditorium.
Silver Ring Thing is a powerful youth event that defies the norms of culture and inspires students to a pure life centered in Jesus Christ, said Mike Hammer, First Church of God Youth pastor.
"Several area churches are hosting the REWIND Tour — challenging students to live for more than just the moment and begin with the end in mind," Hammer said.
"More than ever before, they are encouraging those who are waiting and giving hope to those who haven't," the event’s website stated.
Hammer said it is a two-hour program that is performed as a concert-style event.
"There will be a lot of music and speakers, essentially to talk about staying pure until marriage," Hammer said, adding that those in attendance are encouraged to live a certain way, a better way.
"It helps people to better understand their real value," he said.
Hammer said the speakers will talk about the advantages of staying pure and about those who crossed the line and the consequences they faced for doing so.
He said the doors open at 6:15 p.m. at the high school auditorium, with the program beginning at 7 p.m., and a parents’ session will be going on at the same time for those who would like to participate.
"The parents’ session will equip them to better understand the youth culture and how they deal with the pressure to have sex before marriage," Hammer said. "Purity rings will be available and are optional."
Tickets are available at the door.
