PUNXSUTAWNEY — One of Punxsy's most well-known collectors is back at it, and this time around he's putting a new spin on an old trick.
After collecting a license plate from each state from cars, Douglas Bartlebaugh, a 17-year-old Punxsutawney Area High School student, decided it might be time to start collecting a miniature version of one of his old favorites: motorcycle license plates.
"My uncle gave me a Pennsylvania motorcycle plate, and I already had all the states for the cars, so I figured it was time to start something new," Bartlebaugh said.
Bartlebaugh said that his time spent tracking down the car plates has led him to a place where he knows how to find them, but he did admit that sometimes, he has to resort to the Internet.
"I've picked some up at flea markets in Ohio; I got one at a yard sale last year; and then some of them, I've had to buy on eBay," he said.
Bartlebaugh's family said he's been a collector ever since he was a youngster, citing his habit of peeling license plates off of cars at the family's junkyard when he was just 3 years old.
Fourteen years later, Bartlebaugh's knack for collecting continues, and he has his eyes set on the new prize of rounding out another collection with a bit of hard work.
