Martha MacMillan, 86, Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at home.
She was born April 6, 1925, in Meadville, a daughter of the late Margaret and Frank Waelde.
She graduated from Meadville High School in January 1943.
She worked for Talon Zipper during the war and was a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol.
Aug. 25, 1945, she married her childhood sweetheart and next door neighbor, Douglas MacMillan, who preceded her in death Jan. 1, 2012. Having recently concluded his combat missions in the South Pacific, they moved to Columbus, Ohio, where Mrs. MacMillan worked at Ohio State University Home Economics Department while he attended the School of Optometry.
In 1952, the MacMillans established themselves in Punxsutawney, where she worked at a local bank until their first son was born in 1954. Over the years, Mrs. MacMillan was an active member of Ss. Cosmas & Damian; a regular volunteer with the Adrian Hospital Auxiliary; an avid bridge player and an involved and caring participant and supporter of her family and her extended family.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Scott MacMillan of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Kevin MacMillan and wife Betty Goldstein of Richmond, Va.; a daughter, Sandy Dunn and her husband Joe of Holden, Mass.; as well as her eight wonderful grandsons, Steve, Doug, Mike, Mark, Ben, Andrew, Charlie and Peter.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Dick; and two sisters, Joyce and Mary Lou.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Ss. Cosmas & Damian Roman Catholic Church, Punxsutawney, with Msgr. Joseph Riccardo officiating.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
