DUBOIS —Behind five scores in the 50s, with each of the scorers within two strokes of one another, the Lady Chucks golf team defeated DuBois 227-240 Monday afternoon in DuBois.
With the win, Punxsy improves to 8-0 on the season heading into a rematch with DuBois today which begins the second half of the district schedule.
"I'm really proud of the streak this team is on," Punxsy head coach Katie Irwin said. "They worked hard this summer, and their record is reflecting that."
Lauren Giavedoni and Marisa Stockdale shared the low score for Punxsy with a pair of 56s.
Audrianna Delacour was one stroke behind them with a 57, and Caroline Dunkel's 58 rounded out Punxsy's scorers for the day.
Sarah London also shot varsity and missed scoring by just one shot with a 59.
The scores were a bit high compared to what Irwin's used to seeing, but the girls were on an unfamiliar course, and she looks forward to seeing what they do today.
"Some of the scores were a bit higher than we like to see," she said. "But they have a great opportunity to improve during tomorrow's round. It will test their ability to learn from their mistakes and play smart golf."
Although Irwin would have preferred lower scores, she also noted that DuBois' course is a difficult one.
"The gold course is tough," she said. "If you can't keep it in the fairway, you're in for a bad day. Hopefully, I'll see the girls lining up a little more carefully and making wise club selections (today)."
Irwin knows just what keeps Punxsy's winning ways coming: Depth and consistency.
"Our top four scorers were only two strokes apart," she said. "That depth is bringing us all the wins."
After Punxsy's rematch in DuBois tonight, the Lady Chucks will return to DuBois for an invitational tournament Wednesday.
