PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Lady Chucks hosted a soccer tournament Saturday with Clarion, Smethport and Keystone. Punxsy tied for third with Keystone. Clarion took first place, and Smethport rounded out the tournament in second.
The Lady Chucks were beaten by Clarion 3-0, which helped Clarion to win the overall title.
"It is sometimes a struggle in a loss to take away anything positive from the situation," Punxsy head coach Kevin Hughes said. "However, in our 3-0 loss to Clarion on Saturday, a lot of great stuff happened for us."
The Lady Chucks only gave up one goal while Clarion was coming through the field; the other two goals happened when Punxsy was unable to clear corner kicks.
Hughes said the Lady Chucks had several chances, though, including shots on goal from Sierra Milton, Sydney Dubensky and Hunter Smith.
"After looking at the video of the game, there is more than enough to build upon," Hughes said. "Our passing game was respectable, and we maintained possession for our share of the game. We just could not find the back of the net."
The Lady Chucks then tied 1-1 with Keystone, and Hughes said the team came out looking very tough.
"I was very impressed with their intensity in that hit," he said.
Punxsy had 16 shots while it held Keystone to just four. Keystone's only goal of the game came on a penalty kick. The Lady Chucks soccer squad will head to Brookville at 4 p.m. today for a head-to-head match.
