HOLLIDAYSBURG — After falling behind 16-15 midway through its match at Hollidaysburg, the Punxsy wrestling team never lost another bout while defeating the Golden Tigers Tuesday night, 54-16.
Punxsy (5-6) was down 16-15 after a loss by fall, two defeats by decision and a loss by major decision from 152 pounds to 103 pounds. That's when Punxsy won the final seven bouts thanks to four falls, two forfeits and a decision to exit with the victory.
Joel Bowers (6-3) turned the Punxsy deficit into a 21-16 lead after winning by fall in 28 seconds, and Chelsea Engeholm (1-1) followed with a victory by forfeit at 119 pounds.
After Devan Snyder (2-8) registered a win by pin in 2:32, the Chucks were up 39-16 once Neko Cappella (10-0) grabbed a forfeit win.
Kody Young (9-0) won the 119th match of his career to add to his school record with a 53-second pin before Caesar Maruca (4-6) tallied Punxsy's closest win by decisioning Caleb Walls, 4-3.
Down 3-1 entering the final period, an escape and takedown with 10 seconds left helped Maruca seal the win.
Seth Spack (8-2) completed Punxsy's win when he pinned Matthew Kaplar in 59 seconds at 145 pounds.
Carl Langley (4-5) pulled off a 12-6 decision win at 171 pounds, while Nathan McGregor (8-2) started the match with a pin fall in 56 seconds.
Tige Woodson (4-6) led 11-6 before a win by pin in 4:27, while Tyler Titus (0-8) lost by fall at the 4:30 mark.
Some Chucks wrestled well in losses, including Josh Neal (1-5), who suffered a 6-3 defeat while bumping up to 189 pounds.
In another tightly-contested bout, Josh Schuckers (4-6) ended up with a 5-4 decision loss after his opponent, Damian Huff, managed a late takedown.
Duell Thompson (6-4) avoided a fall while losing to Hollidaysburg's best wrestler — Damian Lascoli — by an 18-5 major decision.
The Chucks will compete in their first home match of the season Thursday night against Curwensville.
