W. Wayne Irwin, 84, Punxsutawney, departed this earth, Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, to be with his dearly departed wife, Betty Lou (Alabran) Irwin.
He was born June 9, 1926, in Rossmoyne, a son of the late Joseph W. and Zoe (Hawk) Irwin.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II assigned to Company C 17th Armored Infantry Battalion “Hellcats” serving in the European Theater as a rifleman.
Before retiring, Mr. Irwin worked as a coal driller for Northern Cambria Fuel for more than 30 years.
He was a loving and devoted husband and father who enjoyed his family and friends. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
Surviving relatives include his children, Kay Good of Reading, Jill Christy of Frombell and Kirby Irwin of Winchester, Va.; five sisters, Gene Jobe, Eleanor Smith, Lorraine Burns, Esther White and Sharon Mock; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his beloved wife Betty Lou, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Wade Irwin, Mack Irwin and Marlin Irwin; and three sisters, Helen Irwin, Ruth Irwin and Opal Beers.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the McCabe Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, at the funeral home with the Rev. Arlene Schweitzer officiating.
Interment will follow at Round Top Cemetery.
