EuGene “Gene” Ferra, 94

July 11, 2014

EuGene Donald Ferra, 94, of Punxsutawney, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Dec. 21, 1919, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Carmen and Carmella (Cappella) Ferra.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine E. (Longo) Ferra.

On July 9, 1955, he married the former Marjorie Anderson, who survives.

Mr. Ferra was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, being in Co. K – 76th Infantry Division.

He fought in France, Luxembourg and Germany, where he was wounded.

Vivian C. (McCullough) Faser, 76

Vivian C. (McCullough) Faser, 76, of Blairsville, Pa., died Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at Indiana Regional Medical Center in Indiana, Pa.

Vivian was born on Feb. 16, 1938, in Nanty Glo, Pa., the daughter of James McCullough and Olive (Drew) Hetrick.

Lawrence "Amos" Ray Gaston, 78

Lawrence “Amos” Ray Gaston, 78, of Punxsutawney, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 27, 1936, in Montgomery Township, Indiana County, a son of the late Boyd Ray and Sarah Henrietta (White) Gaston.

Mr. Gaston was a United States Army veteran who dutifully served his country.

On May 16, 1959, he married the former Gladys Evelyn Milliron. She preceded him in death on April 4, 2014.

Amos was a devoted husband and lovingly cared for his wife during her illness, in spite of his own health issues.

Donald “Tom” Q. Bowers, 85

Donald “Tom” Q. Bowers, 85, of Rossiter, passed away Friday, July 4, 2014, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Bowers was born Aug. 22, 1928, in Hillman, the son of the late Harvey B. and Dora Maye (Niel) Bowers.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine R. (Humble) Bowers, on May 12, 2002.

Mr. Bowers was a member of the Operating Engineers Local No. 66.

Regina Dawn Pearce, 45

Regina Dawn Pearce, 45, of Rural Valley, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014, at her residence.

She was born on Nov. 19, 1968, to Hilton and Rose (Sciarrini) Hollenbaugh in Punxsutawney.

Regina worked as a LPN for Nurse Finders and American Staffing.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting, “NCIS,” “Game of Thrones” and watching “Cops,” but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Arch Serian, 89

Arch Serian, 89, of Rossiter, died Thursday, July 3, 2014,
in Punxsutawney.

He was born April 23, 1925, a son of the late Arch and Jennie (Senott) Serian.

Mr. Serian was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served during World War II.

In May of 1951, he married the former Phyllis G. Altman. She survives and resides in Rossiter.

He worked as a foreman at Loree Footwear until it closed.

Arch was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, and he devoted many years of service to maintaining the church, the grounds and the cemetery.

Bonnie L. Minick, 66

July 4, 2014

Bonnie L. Minick, 66, Ringgold, died Thursday, July 3, 2014, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.

She was born May 2, 1948, a daughter of the late Lennie and Hazel (Reed) Himes.

On Aug. 23, 1980, she married Dale E. Minick, who survives.

She enjoyed making plastic canvases, crocheting, planting flowers, gardening and bowling.

She worked for Brookville Glove for 32 years as a sewer.

Ryder H. Hamman, infant

Ryder H. Hamman, Coolspring, died Saturday, June 28, 2014.

He was born March 16, 2014, in DuBois, a son of Damon and Crystal (Boyer) Hamman.

In addition to his parents, surviving relatives include his maternal grandparents and great-grandparents; paternal grandparents and great-grandparents; two aunts and two uncles; great-aunts and uncles; and several cousins.

“There is no foot so small that it cannot leave an imprint on this world.”

Charles M. “Mac” Marshall, 84

Charles M. “Mac” Marshall, 84, Rochester Mills, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, at home.

He was born May 19, 1930, in Armstrong County, a son of the late Truman N. “T.N.” and Mary M. (Mitchell) Marshall.

On Aug. 12. 1960, he married Shirley M. (Miller) Marshall, who survives.

He was a member of the Marchand United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed crocheting, music, cooking, tinkering with things and automobiles.

He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from the Clarion State Teachers College in 1957 and went on to receive his master’s degree from Indiana University in 1968.

Margie E. Liptak, 88

Margie E. Liptak, 88, died Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Conemaugh Hospital in Johnstown after a lengthy illness.

Margie was born in Walston, Pa., (Jefferson County) on March 16, 1926, to Steve and Anna (Fairman) Farcus.

Upon graduating from Saints Cosmas and Damian High School in Punxsutawney, Margie worked in the grocery business, eventually
becoming manager of stores in Punxsutawney and St. Marys.

Later, she joined Pure Carbon in St. Marys, where she worked until retirement in 1991.

Margie married George L. Liptak in June 1957, and the couple resided in Byrnedale.
