County’s next Take Back Drug Day set for Oct. 26

September 30, 2013

BROOKVILLE — The next Take Back Drug Day will take place at various locations in Jefferson County from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct.
26, Donna Cooper, solid waste/recycling coordinator, announced at the most recent meeting of the Jefferson County Solid Waste Authority.

The locations in Jefferson County where unwanted drugs will be collected include the Jefferson County Courthouse in Brookville, Brockway Drug, Lindsey Fire Station in Punxsutawney and McCabe's Drug Store in Reynoldsville.

Cooper said she would probably put up a recycling display at one of the locations.

Controlled, non-controlled and over-the-counter medications will be collected, including pills, creams and liquids.

No needles, syringes or chemotherapy medications will be accepted.

Cooper said that the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has started collecting drugs year-round, not waiting only for the county's participation in National Take Back Drug Day.

"If at any time you have a prescription or you have a friend or family member who has a prescription, you can drop it off there if you want to get rid of it," Cooper said.

When it comes to children riding in cars, safety always comes first.
