A special Legislature Farewell Breakfast was held in honor of PA State Representative Sam Smith early Friday morning. Smith will not be running for re-election and will be stepping down and taking a much-deserved rest. At the breakfast, which was hosted by the Punxsutawney Area Chamber of Commerce, Smith was presented with a special clock, a gift from

Punxsutawney Mayor Richard Alexander proclaimed the week of Sept. 17 through Sept. 23 as "National Constitution Week" in Punxsutawney. Constitution Week was initiated by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). CHUCKS DOMINANT IN ROUTE 36 RIVALRY

The Punxsutawney Chucks re-claimed the Route 36 Rivalry trophy on Friday night with a 47-6 victory over the Brookville Raiders.

Punxsy was dominant on both sides of the ball, making for a long night for the Raiders.

Members of the CREATE Brookville Photo Club opened their first group exhibit at the CREATE Cafe last Friday. Pictured are some Photo Club members who contributed to the exhibit, which will be on display through the end of the month: (front, from left) Chris Lasher, Jessica Fleeger, Bill Stein; (middle) Trudy Garvey, Bill Kesterholt; (back) Anthony Thomas, Kyle Yates and Jami Rhoades. The Photo Club meets at 9 a.m. on the last Saturday of the month. Every month, members get a new assignment and use social media to post and critique one another's work.

Would your son like to throw a pie into a Cub Scout leader’s face? It may not sound all that nice, but it’s all in good fun, as any boy in 1st through 5th grades could have that chance. Those interested in scouting can find out how by coming to Grace United Methodist Church, located below the Punxsutawney Area Hospital, from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Punxsy Cub Scout Pack 245 will be having its sign-ups. Those unable to attend can contact Cub Scoutmaster Greg Kunselman at 952-3400. Pack 245 will be accepting sign-ups until Oct. 1.

The Ice Bucket Challenge trend has been sweeping the nation to raise awareness for Lou Gehrig's Disease.

The faculty at Jenks Hill Elementary took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on Friday afternoon. The faculty was challenged by PAHS Principal Dave London. They are challenging all the elementary school principals and the athletic committee staff. Participants included Deidre Martino, Kelly Fisher, Holly McCausland, Roberta Fetterman, Andrea Caylor, Judy Fetterman, Julie Baun, Cody Wells, Chris Fallat, Deana Myers, Shannon White, and Stefanie Neal.

7 MORE YEARS FOR PHIL

Punxsutawney Phil received seven more years of life thanks to the magic elixir that he drank at Saturday's Philfest at Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney.

Country Store Burned

The store building of C.E. Smith, on the Maysville road, in Perry township, was destroyed by fire last night, together with all its contents, including about nine hundred dollars worth of stock and about $350 in money, $335 of which was in bills.

Pine Street house destroyed by fire demolished Friday

Now you see it now you don't, as this is all that is left from the house located at 331 Pine St., Punxsutawney.

Borough Council had the house demolished Friday due to its unsafe condition from a fire that occurred on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013.

SUNSET AT CLOE LAKE

The kids may be back in school and football season is underway, which tells us that summer is over.

However, the thermometer tells us differently, as the temperature was in the high 80s on Friday.

Even though we don't have the ocean, we do have Cloe Lake in Bell Township to provide us with spectacular sunsets.

This one was taken Thursday evening following a fishing excursion.
