MARION CENTER — The Indiana County Coroner said a Marion Center area man's body was found in a pick-up Monday afternoon, but it appears that the accident that apparently killed him occurred hours before.
Monday, Coroner Mike Baker said the body of David F. Biss, 54, Grant Township, was discovered by a passing motorist shortly before noon Monday. Baker said Biss apparently lost control of his northbound Chevrolet pick-up near 4140 Route 119 in Rayne Township, causing it to cross the center line and travel through a guardrail. The vehicle then struck a utility pole and several small trees before descending a steep embankment off the east berm, he said. The victim was slightly entrapped, Baker said, adding that he believes the accident probably occurred hours before Biss' body was discovered, because the wreckage was obscured from view by the embankment. Baker has scheduled an autopsy for today in at the Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown to determine if Biss may have become disabled by a medical problem while driving. Toxicology tests are pending. Baker's office was assisted at the scene by the Marion Center VFD. Indiana-based Pennsylvania State Police are also investigating, he said. |
