CLEARFIELD - The Punxsy girls' volleyball team started where it left off, as after an undefeated regular season in 2006, the Lady Chucks swept Clearfield Tuesday night, 3-0. "Great way to begin the regular season," Punxsy head coach Lisa Good said. "We came out on fire in warm-ups and kept that pace throughout the first two games. We let down with our focus and intensity in Game No. 3, but still pulled it out."

Game's 1 (25-11) and 2 (25-9) came with relative ease, but Game 3 was just a six-point victory, 25-19.

"I was impressed with the confidence they played with," Good said. "Overall, we controlled the tempo of the game. That is what we need to continue to do as the season progresses."

Holly Setree had six kills to lead the way for the Lady Chucks, as Katie Monoskey and Hannah Neal each had five. Alee Kromer contributed four kills and Alexis Bianco chipped in with three.

Heather Good controlled the ball by mixing it up as the team's setter, and Kelsey McFarland started the offense with solid serve reception and defense.

Lisa Good said that the serving was hot and cold, as Brittany Aaron led the way with three services aces.

"She has a nice serve that is difficult to receive," Lisa Good said. "She will only get better as the season continues."

On the junior-varsity side, Punxsy won 25-12 and 25-8.

"We struggled at the start of the game with our serving, but the girls came around and put in a solid performance," Punxsy coach Glenn Good said.

Kristen Fedder had 13 services points and five aces. Melissa Blose had two blocks.

The Lady Chucks (1-0) return to the hard court for their first home match of the season Thursday against Brockway.

Junior-varsity starts at 6 p.m., while the varsity game will follow.
