Pizza & Prevention organizers seek to surpass 2005 success
PUNXSUTAWNEY - Five years later, and it's still going strong.
This coming Saturday, Fox's Pizza Den will again host Pizza & Prevention, and as always, 100 percent of the money generated from the sales of Big Daddy Pizzas will be donated to the Punxsutawney Fire Department.
Fox's owner Scott Anthony said this year's goal is to surpass the record-breaking totals from last year, which were $13,000 raised and 1,244 pizzas sold.
Anthony said over the past few years, the event - established five years ago in the aftermath of Sept. 11, 2001 - has raised more than $37,000 for the fire department, as well as equipping more than 1,800 homes with working smoke detectors.
“The Kengersky Agency feels it is an incredible opportunity to help our community in two ways: Promoting personal fire safety through the use of smoke detectors and adding an exciting feature to the local fire departments' major fund-raiser,” Nationwide Insurance-The Kengersky Agency associate Matt Kengersky said.
“Any insurance professional can attest to the fact that the best insurance policy can't replace lives or memories,” he said. “The Kengersky Agency and Nationwide Insurance do our best to promote prevention because even though homes are people's largest asset, the people and the pictures that fill a house are what really matters.”
Kengersky said the Punxsutawney Fire Department is “a dedicated group of men and women whom risk their own safety to save the lives and property of our customers, friends and neighbors, a huge asset Punxsutawney should never take for granted.”
Throughout the day, WPXZ 104.1 FM will hold a live remote from Fox's Pizza Den.
“It is truly a pleasure to work with Fox's Pizza and the local fire departments during the 2006 Pizza & Prevention event,” WPXZ Station Manager Jason Hill said. “WPXZ 104.1 FM is excited to help spread the message about fire prevention to our community.”
“Punxsutawney Burger King has been a part of the community for more than 20 years, and we would like to say ‘thank you' to the community, its volunteer fire department and our customers for their continued support,” Burger King owner Maureen Gathagan said. “We appreciate the opportunity to participate in this worthwhile community event.” |
