PUNXSUTAWNEY - At most anniversaries, it is the celebrants who receive gifts, but Scott Anthony of Fox's Pizza Den has decided to commemorate Fox's 28th anniversary by using the special event to give gifts to raise funds for the Punxsutawney Memorial Library.
Saturday, April 14, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fox's will donate 28 percent of its sales to the library. The featured item will be an extra large 16-inch pepperoni pizza at an anniversary discount price. Those who want to enjoy their pizza later can purchase coupon cards for future use at the same economical price. The cards also make fine gifts for all occasions.
Moreover, the library will receive 100 percent of all tips given to the trustees and their helpers, who will be delivering throughout the day. Deliveries will be made in-town and within a radius of three miles.
Anthony is going all-out to offer a fun-filled day for his customers, who can sign up for giveaways, including the grand prize valued at more than $500, which will be awarded at 7 p.m.
Those wishing to register for the drawing may do so by using the entry form in today's Spirit or by registering online at www.FoxsPizzaPunxsy.com
WPXZ-FM will be on hand for a live remote broadcast from 4 to 7 p.m. Station personnel will have a prize wheel with opportunities to win a variety of merchandise, such as tickets to Pittsburgh Pirates' games and area amusement parks.
More than a dozen civic-minded establishments are joining Fox's to give area residents more reasons to come into town and to participate in the festivities.
In addition to providing prizes for the library's campaign, the following businesses will have specials, clearance events and even yard sales: County Market; Paul Beatty Jewelers; Chicks from the Sticks; the Goodwill store; Precious Pieces; the Punxsutawney Area Chamber of Commerce; Miller Brothers Furniture; B's Books; Simple Elegance; Cornerstone Chiropractic; Movie Castle; Trailhead Gallery; and Emma's & Company. Incidentally, Emma's will also make a $20 donation to the library for each dress sold that day.
Although the main celebration ends Saturday, Fox's Pizza also wants to promote National Library Week.
Anthony has announced he will offer a free pizza to anyone who signs up for a library card from April 16 to 21 at the Punxsutawney Memorial Library.
As another gift, Anthony has arranged for the library to receive a free, one-year subscription to Pizza Today.
He explained, "This is the No. 1 magazine in the pizza industry, and my customers at the shop read through it as they enjoy a meal with us. I feel the community will also enjoy reading and learning more about the pizza industry.
"It's more than just coupons or clever ads," he said. "Pizzerias contribute to the community in many ways: Creating jobs, offering a healthy, fun, affordable choice for families to enjoy. Pizza is about people."
Commenting on Fox's Pizza's support, library trustee Jeff Kuntz said, "It's really gratifying to have generous, civic-minded business owners like Scott Anthony and the other merchants who are willing to step up and help vital services like the library.
"We are grateful to all of the sponsors of this weekend's campaign; we're sure the public will show its support by buying the pizzas or coupon cards to make this a very successful project for the library," Kuntz said.
Other trustees working with Kuntz to coordinate the coupon sales and the pizza deliveries are Francis Molinaro, Toni Irick, Barbara Burkett, Beverly Fairman, Bill Spencer and library director Roberta Dinsmore. |
