INDIANA – On behalf of Governor Tom Corbett, PennDOT announced Wednesday that the bridges on Route 310 in Young Township will be replaced.
The residents of Young Township and motorists who travel on Route 310
will benefit from the replacement of two structurally deficient bridges in Jefferson County.
The Harmony No. 1 bridge over Elk Run, built in 1925, carries approximately 3,520 vehicles per day and will be replaced with a steel girder bridge.
The Harmony No. 2 bridge over Little Elk Run, built in 1925, carries approximately the same number of vehicles per day and will be replaced with a concrete box culvert.
Beginning this week, flagger-controlled lane restrictions will be in place on Route 310, from 1.5 miles north of the Route 2015 (Graffius Avenue) intersection to approximately four miles south of the Route 2017 (Graffius Avenue Extension) intersection.
These restrictions will be in place until mid-April to install temporary traffic signals for each bridge.
Once the temporary signals are in place, one-lane alternating traffic will be maintained across each bridge for the duration of the project.
PennDOT reminds motorists to be alert to changing conditions and to pay attention to flaggers in the work zone.
Remember, fines are doubled; drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
This $1,907,700 bridge replacement project is being done by Horizon Construction Group, Inc., of Sandy Lake.
The project is expected to be completed in May 2014.
