Wolfe: Snow (days) piling up in Punxsy district

February 19, 2014

Dr. Keith Wolfe

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Perhaps you’ve heard the sounds of children playing in the snow outside your windows on school days this year. But that sound means something else, too — the school calendar is getting longer and longer.

Dr. Keith Wolfe, Punxsutawney Area School District superintendent, said that the last student day was scheduled to be Wednesday, May 28, but that schedule has been off the table for a long time due to school cancellations caused by the weather.

"This has been our fourth or fifth full school day cancellation this year, which pushes the school calendar into the month of June," Wolfe said, adding that there have also been several two-hour delays.

For more on snow and the schedule, see Thursday's print edition of The Spirit.
