PUNXSUTAWNEY — Punxsutawney Borough and Punxsutawney-based Pennsylvania State Police are investigating an alleged shooting that occurred along Cranberry Alley around 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police did not offer comments at the scene, but eyewitnesses suggested there were several people standing in the alley near a brown or gold SUV when multiple gunshots were heard and seen.

Witnesses said the shots apparently came from the SUV.

Following the shots — which were believed to be as many as 10 — witnesses said there were cries of “help me, help me,” when another car pulled up and picked up what appeared to be the two individuals and transported them to Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

Borough police and state police canvassed the alley, and checked nearby homes for bullet holes and spent shells, some of which were found in a parking lot adjacent to the alley.

Punxsy Borough Police Chief Tom Fedigan said he had no comment regarding the incident, but said he would have a release when he had more information.

No residents were injured in the shooting.
