Willovene “Nean” F. Mills, 91

January 10, 2013

Willovene “Nean” F. Mills, 91, of Punxsutawney, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan, 10, 2013, at her home.

She was born Nov. 3, 1921, in Troutville, Pa., a daughter of the late Herman and Vera (Ellinger) Shepler.

March 10, 1941, she married William P. Mills, who preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1985.

Mrs. Mills was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife.

She was a past member of Homemakers’ Club and Ladies Aide, and a current member of the St. Phillips United Methodist Church in Big Run.

Nean was beloved by all who had the privilege to call her mom, grandma, aunt or friend.

Everyone loved her big smile.

She was a terrific bread baker and always made everyone feel welcome in her home with her wonderful homemade food.

She was a hard worker who loved to be outside and loved to work on the farm.

She helped in the barn and had chickens until just a few years ago.

She loved gardening and took great joy in seeing farm work be done, from planting to harvesting, caring for the cows and everything in between.

Nean’s heart was always on the farm, and she was so happy to be able to spend her last days in the place she loved the most.

Surviving relatives include three sons, Jerry Mills and Sandy of Gettysburg, Pa., Howard Mills and Marlene of DuBois, and Brad
Mills and Patricia of Punxsutawney; five grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Naomi Pifer of DuBois and Joan Lott of Troutville; and a brother, Howard Shepler of Troutville.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, William Jackson Mills; two sisters, Mary Shaffer and Mabel Smith; a brother, Jack Shepler; and two infant siblings.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big Run.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at St. Phillips United Methodist Church in Big Run.

A graveside service will follow at Clover Run Cemetery in Mahaffey.
