William S. Gomola, 89

William S. Gomola, 89, Punxsutawney, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Nov. 14, 1922, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Steve and Mary (Sivanich) Gomola.

Sept. 20, 1947, he married Anna (Roman) Gomola, who survives.

He was a member of Saint Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church of Punxsutawney.

Mr. Gomola served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1941 to 1945, where he was an intercept operator.

He loved watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and the Penguins.

He retired from the B&O Railroad as a brakeman and a conductor.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include a son, Daniel Gomola and wife Elena of Butler; a granddaughter, Ashlee Himes and fiancé Nick Smith; a great-granddaughter, Alexis; a great-grandson, Gavin; a sister, Elsie Hettish; and a brother, Steve Gomola.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Fetterman; two brothers, Andrew Gomola and Cornelius Gomola; and a sister, Mary Lou Ference.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral Divine Liturgy will be held at 11 a.m, Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at Saint Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church with Father Simeon Sibenik officiating.

Interment will be at Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Cemetery in Sykesville.
