William J. "Jiggs" Covatch, Sr., 86

William J. “Jiggs” Covatch, Sr., 86 of Punxsutawney, passed away Monday, Oct.r 7, 2013, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

Mr. Covatch was born on Nov. 24, 1926, in Rossiter, a son of the late Charles and Mary Jane (Barnett) Covatch.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Nancy L. (Restifo) Covatch on April 23, 2002 — they were married March 24, 1951 — and by his son, William Jerry Covatch, Jr., on Oct. 12, 1985.

He was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean War.

William worked for the Dodge Motor Company in Detroit, Mich., and later for J & L Steel in Aliquippa before retiring.

He loved hunting, fishing, bowling and cooking.

He is survived by his daughter, Roxann Cole and husband Randy of Wyalusing, Pa.; two brothers, Harold Covatch and wife Gyneth and Richard Covatch; three grandchildren, Taylor Cole, Sam Covatch and wife Tanya and Neil Covatch; three great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Frances Tribisondi and husband John and Kay Covatch; his special nieces, Nancy White, Cathy Brocious and Marie Burkett; and special friends Clayton “Ham” Riddle and Joe Zambory.

In addition to his wife Nancy and son, William, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd, Charles and Albert Covatch, and a sister, Betty Pezutti.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. with Joseph Buterbaugh officiating.

Interment will follow at Pearce Cemetery, Rossiter.
