William H. Powell, 56

William H. Powell, 56, of Knox Dale, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at his home.

He was born on Nov. 4, 1957, in Punxsutawney, the son of Harold “Hud” and Janet E. (Burford) Powell.

He married Paula L. (Hess) on Oct. 23, 1998.

Bill was a truck driver and served in the United States Army Reserve.

He loved his family and his dogs. He was an avid sports fan, especially fond of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also enjoyed riding his side-by-side and hunting.

He is survived by his parents, Harold “Hud” and Janet Powell of Ohl; his wife, Paula, of Knox Dale; four step-children, Amy, Rodney, Trista and Cash; 14 grandchildren; four sisters, Denise Eble and husband John of Summerville, Shelly Hammond and husband Rocky of Fairmount City, Glenda Confer and husband Harry of Sigel and Jane Lucas and husband Bernie of Youngsville; a brother, John Powell and wife Kim of Sykesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Ann Powell.

Bill’s request was to be cremated.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn.

A memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 4 p.m. on Saturday, with Pastor Rocky Hammond officiating.

Interment will be at the Ohl Cemetery, Jefferson County.
