William E. Van Horn, 79

September 5, 2012

William E. Van Horn, 79, Dayton, was at home with his wife when he was ushered joyfully to Heaven and into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 4, 2012.

Mr. Van Horn was born on Nov. 23, 1932, in Kittanning and was the third child of Dorsey and Berdella (Goldstrohm) Van Horn, who preceded him in death, along with a brother, Robert Van Horn and sister, Blanche (Roberts) Van Horn.

He married his high school sweetheart, Gail Schrecengost, on June 6, 1953, and they recently celebrated 59 years of marriage together.

William was a member of Holiness Gospel Center and is affectionately remembered for his great love and participation of reciting "Recitations from the Heart" as "The Storyteller." He and Gail regularly traveled to various Hymn Sings, Nursing Homes, fairs and family celebrations where he lovingly ministered with his stories, songs and poems.

William had been an iron worker for more than 56 years at Local 3, Pittsburgh.

He felt his life was defined by his Christian faith and love for the Lord that he shared with anyone he met.

Bill was devoted to his wife and he loved, cherished and took pride in the heritage the Lord blessed him with through his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He loved hunting, fishing, singing, playing the piano, his dogs, gardening and the outdoors. He especially loved sitting by the ponds watching his family catch and show off large-sized catfish and bass.

He is survived by his wife Gail and children: Timothy and wife Sharon, of Dayton; Daniel and wife, Deb, of Kittanning; Cynthia Snyder and husband Doug of Shelocta; Stephen and wife Donna, of Dayton; and Ruth Harmon and husband Darrell of Sagamore; 28 Grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Clint, and wife Diana, of Home; a sister, Thelma Mae Morehead of Mason Dixon, WV; and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, September 7, 2012, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Carson/Boyer Funeral Home, Inc., 724 Main St., Rural Valley.

Funeral services will be held at the Holiness Gospel Center at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2012, with Pastor Kal Henry officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Sagamore.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made for medical expenses to Gail Van Horn, 158 S. Miller Rd., Dayton, PA 16222.
