William E. Smith, 81

William E. Smith, 81, of DuBois, passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at DuBois Regional Medical Center, DuBois.

Mr. Smith was born Sept. 18, 1931, in Winslow Township, the son of the late Kenneth E. Smith and Dorothy R. (Graham) Smith.

On Oct. 14, 1989, he married Audrey C. (Meier) Smith who survives.

He attended Reynoldsville High School.

Mr. Smith was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict.

He was a retired mechanic of 25 years for Dennison Brothers Chevrolet of Reynoldsville.

Mr. Smith attended the Salem Methodist Church.

He was a member and past master of the John M. Read Lodge No. 536
F&AM, Coudersport Consistory; member and past exhaulted ruler of the Reynoldsville B.P.O. Elks; member and past commander of William L. Dixon Detachment No. 289 of Clearfield; member and past president of the Reynoldsville Ambulance Service; and member of American Legion Post No. 392 Reynoldsville.

He was active with the Marine’s Toys for Tots of Clearfield and was an avid hunter and fisherman who was involved with dirt track racing.

Mr. Smith is survived by, four sons, Robert E. Smith and wife Denise of Reynoldsville, James A. Smith and wife Lorri of Hawley, Kenenth L. Smith
and wife Mary of Reynoldsville, and Joseph P. Smith and wife Shari of Reynoldsville; two step-sons, Mark E. Shankey and wife Carla of Mechanicsville, Va., and David M. Shankey and wife Donna of Hopewell; three step-daughters, Christina Myersky of Pittsburgh, Rebecca Hines and husband Edward of West Chester, and Robin Davis and husband David of Salem; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Charles E. Smith and wife Betty of Williamsport, Arthur P. Smith and wife Linda of Reynoldsville, and Richard E. Smith and wife Virginia of Indiana.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in his death by his first wife, Claire Ann (Phillips) Smith; and a sister, Emma Jane Town.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at the Bernard P. Snyder Funeral Home in Reynoldsville.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the Salem Methodist Church in DuBois, with the Rev. Richard Howe officiating.

Masonic services will be held by the John M. Read Lodge No. 536 at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at the funeral home.

The DuBois Area Honor Guard will award military honors at the funeral.
