William A. Caliguire, 86
William A. Caliguire, 86, Punxsutawney, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, at home, surrounded by his family.
He was born June 12, 1928, in Covode, a son of the late August and Grace (Paola) Caliguire.
On Oct. 10, 1953, he married Delores R. (Rotolo) Caliguire, who survives.
He served in the U.S. Army as an MP during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of Ss. Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church of Punxsutawney, where he sang in the choir and served as a Cantor.
He enjoyed gardening, singing and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a past secretary of the Moose, a member of the Eagles Club and also the St. Vincent De Paul Society. He was also the first president of the Jefferson County Tax Collectors Association.
He worked for Quaker Market for many years. He then went to work for the Jefferson County Tax Assessment Office and then became the tax collector for Punxsutawney for 20 years.
In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include three daughters, Cheryl Larkin of DuBois, Doreen Gotwald and husband Rick of Punxsutawney and Susan Mitchell and husband Dan of Punxsutawney; six grandchildren, Justin Larkin and wife Sara, Julie Larkin, Theresa Gotwald, Ryan Gotwald, Lee Mitchell and wife Carissa, and Erin Hunger and husband John; five great-grandchildren, Fox and Gemma Larkin and Ariana, Anthony and Ezra Mitchell; two sisters, Margaret Noell and Rose Gomola; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Frances Mary, and a brother, John Caliguire.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at SS.C.D., with Monsignor Joseph Riccardo officiating.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Punxsutawney.

Hospice or to the St. Vincent De Paul Society.
