William C. Young, Sr., 60

William C. Young, Sr., 60, of Punxsutawney, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born Sept. 3, 1953, in Sewickley, a son of the late Joe J. and Anna Ruth (Waltman) Young.

On Feb. 3, 1973, he married the former Georgina Thompson. She survives.

Bill previously enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing.

He also enjoyed working on lawnmowers and weedeaters.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, William C. Young, Jr. and fiancée Jennifer Dotts; one grandson, Braden Thomas Young; Morgan Raup; two brothers, Donald Mercer and wife Brenda of Brockway,
and Allen Young and wife Donna of Big Run; three sisters, Edith Young of Punxsutawney, Marie Graff and husband Ray of Tonawanda, N.Y., and Robin Wyrziniak and husband Carol of Lackawanna, N.Y.; brother-in-law John Metzinger of Tonawanda, N.Y.; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Mercer of Tonawanda and Jackie Mercer of Punxsutawney.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Robert, Kenneth and Thomas Mercer and Joe J. Young Jr.; and a sister, Eleanor Metzinger.

Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc.

A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, officiated by Roger Farrah.

Interment will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Knoxdale.
