William C. Bowser, 92

William C. Bowser, 92, of Rossiter, passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.

Mr. Bowser was born June 29, 1920, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Lawrence Bowser and Margaret (Brown) Bowser.

Oct. 26, 1946, he married his wife, Velma E. (Neal) Bowser, who survives, of Rossiter.

Mr. Bowser was a proud U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II with the 101st Airborne, Screaming Eagles, as a paratrooper.

He participated in D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge and was wounded at
Bastogne.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was a member of the CMA Church in Punxsutawney.

He worked for more than 29 years for Fairman Drilling before retirement.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and, most of all, his family.

In addition to his wife, Velma, surviving relatives include a daughter, Joy Hockinson and husband Robert J. of Rossiter; two grandchildren, Robert W. Hockinson and Nicole Horne; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney, where a veteran’s service will be conducted at 7 p.m. by the Punxsutawney VFW Post No. 2076.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at the CMA Church in Punxsutawney with Pastor John Buchmann officiating.

Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
