Wilber Boyd Bair, 85

Wilber Boyd Bair, 85, of Rossiter, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born Feb. 25, 1927, in Banks Township, Indiana County, a son of the late Lemon Clair and Sarah Jane (Pearce) Bair.

He was a member of the United States Army, serving during World War II, where he earned the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

On Dec. 23, 1950, he married the former Margaret Ruth Wilt. She preceded him in death on Aug. 30, 2007.

Mr. Bair attended the First Church of God.

He worked as a heavy construction foreman for Thomas A. Mekis & Sons, Inc. of Fennelton, Pa. He was a member of the Laborers Local Union # 910.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 0141.

Wilbur enjoyed repairing bicycles. His recycled bikes brought joy to many young children around Rossiter. He also enjoyed sitting on his front porch, waving to all who passed by.

He loved his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also loved his late dog, Katie.

Surviving relatives include four children, Edith M. Delaney and husband Donald of DuBois, Richard L. Bair and wife Sandra of Rossiter, James E. Bair and wife Carol of DuBois, and Kae Bair of Las Vegas, Nevada; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, William B. Bair; a granddaughter, Jennifer Ploucha; three sisters, Cleora Bair, Thelma Weaver and Zelda Marie Brown; and seven brothers, Phillip Ralph Bair, William Ellsworth Bair, Lewis Blair Bair, Clarence Henry Bair, Raymond Lloyd Bair, Wilmer Floyd Bair (Wilber’s twin brother) and an infant.

Friends will be received from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Bob Bish and Pastor Greg Smith.

Military honors will be accorded by the Jefferson County Honor Guard.

Interment will follow at Union Hill Cemetery, Rossiter.
