PUNXSUTAWNEY — As the year is advancing, so are the exhibits at the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center (PWDC).
Just in time for Groundhog Day, the PWDC is upgrading its already-popular Galileo Ultra Graphix Animator Plus, otherwise known as a green screen.
A green screen, including the essential equipment, allows people of all ages to stand in front of the green screen and perform a weather forecast, just like on TV.
During the time the individual is standing in front of the green screen, he or she is able to hold a control and click through the 10 various backgrounds to conduct different kinds of weather, as he or she moves appropriately throughout.
Some of the backgrounds available at the center are local weather; state weather; national weather; daily forecasts; radar maps; temperature maps; and wind speed and direction, all of which are current to the weather at that distinct time.
The new green screen equipment will allow the visitor to continue to convey the weather using all the backgrounds that are available now. However, the new console will be displayed in a much neater fashion, hiding all wires, keeping the apparatus more compact and professional, “Very 21st Century,” project administrator Mary Jean Johnston said.
This new high-quality console will display two brand new, flat screen, 19-inch LED monitors, which will be the only things that the visitors will be able to view. This will be a one-peice console just like on the TV stations.
Marketechs, located in York, has designed the new green screen for the Weather Center.
The firm has devised the new exhibit to coordinate the Weather Wizard, an exhibit already at the center, that displays a vibrant blue color, which it also designed.
As the new addition, is taking it’s place, Johnston said, “The green screen is getting a facelift.”
