The Fire Department
It is of vital interest to the people of this town that our fire department be kept up to the highest possible standard of efficiency. A successor to the late chief of the company, W C. Torrence, who resigned
three weeks ago, has not yet been appointed, and it is doubtful if the right kind of a man can be induced to service without compensation.

There should be somebody to take care of the hose and trucks and it would be well for the chief to have telephone connection with the pump station, so that the engineer could be notified at once when a fire broke out and begin pumping into the line.
