W. Ray Hetrick, 85

W. Ray Hetrick, 85, of Erie, formerly of Pansy-Ringgold Road, died Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Brevillier Village in Erie.

Born Jan. 5, 1929, in Pansy, Pa., he was the son of the late William Carlton Hetrick and Ida Young Hetrick.

He attended Brookville High School and later received his GED.

He was married to Frances A. Batina on May 4, 1932, at the St. Charles Catholic Church in New Bethlehem. She preceded him in death on Oct. 12, 2010.

Ray worked as a mechanic for Ferraro's Fruit Company in Brookville. He later worked as a diesel mechanic for Brookville Equipment for more than 20 years. He also owned Hetrick Hydraulic Jack Repair.

He enjoyed tinkering with things. His family called him Mr. Fix-it.

He also liked farming and gardening.

Ray was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and held the position of treasurer for many years.

Ray is survived by two daughters, Nancy (James) Doolittle of Erie, Pa., and Patricia (Daniel) Friel of Cambridge Springs, Pa.; and two sons, Edward (Rebecca) Hetrick of Cleveland, Ohio, and Michael Hetrick of Moline, Ill.

Also surviving are two sisters, D. Helen DeMotte Ott Wilson and Alice Elizabeth Hetrick, both of DuBois; and eight grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Hetrick; and a sister, Rose Zimmerman.

His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at the Furlong Funeral Home, located at the corner of Broad Street and First Avenue in Summerville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at the funeral home, with Pastor Jim Steingass officiating.

Interment will follow at the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Beaver Township, Jefferson County.
