Voters to decide on commissioner, council, school board races Tuesday

BROOKVILLE — Tuesday is Election Day, when voters go to the polls to decide several important local races, including Jefferson County Commissioner, Punxsutawney Borough Council and Punxsutawney Area School Board of Directors.

The candidates for Jefferson County Commissioner include Republican incumbents Paul Corbin and James P. McIntyre; Jeffrey Pisarcik, Democratic incumbent; and Democratic challenger Patrick J. McFall. Voters will not be able to vote for more than three.

For Jefferson County Auditor, incumbent Republican candidates are Maxine Zimmerman and Roger Richards, while the Democratic incumbent is Brenda Scarantine. Voters will not be able to vote for more than three.

Republican incumbent Register and Recorder Diane Maihle Kiehl is running unopposed, as is Republican Jefferson County Sheriff incumbent Carl J. Gotwald Sr., who is also running unopposed on the Democratic ticket.
Incumbent Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge John H. Foradora is running unopposed in a retention election for a second 10-year term on the bench.

In the Punxsutawney area, incumbent District Judge Douglas R. Chambers, who is running as a Republican and Democrat, is unopposed for a six-year term in Magisterial District 54-3-01.

Punxsutawney Borough Council candidates are challengers Eric C. Story and Michelle P. Lorenzo, who are both running as Republican and Democratic candidates.

Incumbent Council member Roger L. Steele is running for re-election as a Republican, and Robert Toby Santik is running for a seat on council as an Independent.

There is one seat that is contested for the Punxsutawney Area School Board. Region VIII incumbent Republican Jack D. White is opposed by Democratic challenger Stacy Houser.

For Punxsutawney Region I, cross-filed as a Republican and Democratic candidate, Melissa Snyder is unopposed, and for Region IX, incumbent cross-filed candidate Penny Muth Pifer is unopposed.

The polls in Jefferson County will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and once again ES&S iVotronic machines will be used.
