Virginia Mae Walker, 79

Virginia Mae Walker, 79, Sykesville, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at DuBois Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

She was born Jan. 19, 1934, a daughter of the late Calvin and Della (Harold) Bishop.

Virginia married Glenn R. Walker on April 4, 1953. He survives and lives in Sykesville.

Virginia is also survived by her five children: Annette Jolene Minns of Sykesville, Robert Glenn Walker of Sykesville, Ronald Fred (Margarie) Walker of Douglas, Wyo., Calvin Ray (Kathy) Walker of Erie and Richard Eugene Walker of Sykesville; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard (Ada) Bishop and William Bishop, all of Punxsutawney.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her son, John Sylvester Walker.

Virginia was a secretary for many years.

She graduated from Punxsutawney High School. She attended Soldier Community Church.

Virginia taught Sunday School and was a piano player at church for many years.

She was very helpful with shut-ins in the area.

She was a missionary in South Dakota on a Native American reservation for six years.

Public visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at The Leo Nedza Funeral Home in Sykesville.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013, at The Soldier Community Church with the Rev. Kevin Brooks officiating.

Interment will take place at Sykesville Memorial Cemetery in Sykesville.
