Virginia M. “Tootie” Wilkins, 81

Virginia M. “Tootie” Wilkins, 81, of Punxsutawney, died Monday, May 12, 2014, at the DuBois Nursing Home, DuBois.

The daughter of Ruben John Ruthstrom and Hester Mary (Fuller) Ruthstrom Hurd, she was born on April 28, 1933, in Glen Campbell, Pa.

A 1951 graduate of the Punxsutawney High School, Virginia went on to graduate from Dorinda’s Beauty School in Indiana, Pa.

She attended the Cloe United Methodist Church.

For a span of 20 years, covering the time period of 1968-1988, Virginia was the owner/operator of Virginia’s Beauty Salon in Hannibal, Ohio.

She married George L. Wilkins on Oct. 22, 1977.

Virginia is survived by her husband of almost 37 years, George L. Wilkins, of Punxsutawney; her daughter, Yvonne Bernice Stackpole and husband Steve, Sr. of Alamogordo, New Mexico; her grandson, Steven Stackpole, Jr. and fiancée Linda Ketter of DuPont, Washington; her two step-children, Michael George Wilkins and wife Linda of Clymer, and Julia Elizabeth Bassaro and husband Scott of Clymer; four step-grandchildren, Stephen Wilkins of Red Lion, Pa., Alysia Daniels and husband Steve of Salt Lake City, Utah, Ryan Bassaro of Pittsburgh, and Stephanie Sciotto and husband Doug of Phillipsburg, Pa.; and her four sisters, Louise Collier of DuBois, Bernice McWilliams of Cambridge, Ohio, Alice Tripodi of DuBois, and Linda Elbel of Chambersburg, Pa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, William “Buddy” Ruthstrom; and her sister, Mabel Ankeny.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, Pa.

A 2 p.m. funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Thompson officiating.

Interment will be at the Burnside Cemetery in Burnside, Pa.
