Virginia A. “Ginny” MacKenzie, 87

Virginia A. “Ginny” MacKenzie, 87, Punxsutawney, died Monday, April 16, 2012, at Dubois Nursing Home.

She was born Feb. 28, 1925, in Anita, a daughter of the late Elmer C. and Alberta M. (Brown) Anderson.

Nov. 16, 1946, she married Robert J. MacKenzie, who preceded her in death.

She was a member of the St. Peters United Church of Christ.

She formerly lived in Philadelphia and resided in Sarasota, Fla., six months out of the year.

Mrs. MacKenzie was a member of the Punxsutawney Country Club and enjoyed playing bridge.

She was a graduate of the class of 1941 and worked at Punxsutawney Hardware after graduation, and then went on to work at the state employment office.

Surviving relatives include a sister, Marcella J. (Anderson) Hobba and husband Robert A. of Punxsutawney; a sister-in-law Wanda Anderson; 10 nieces and nephews, Robert G. Hobba of Punxsutawney, Gail (Hobba) Reddinger and husband Terry of Punxsutawney, Nancy H. (Hobba) Chelgren and husband Tom of Punxsutawney, Karen D. (Hobba) Miller and husband M. Todd of Dubois, Gloria M. (Moss) Clapper and husband David of Indianapolis, Ind., David M. Hoovler and wife Christa of New York, Elmer C. “Andy” Anderson of Belleville, Ill., Daniel Anderson of Belleville, Ill., Jack J. Anderson and wife Cathy of Illinois, and Wanda L. (Anderson) Bosza and husband Kenneth of Belleville, Ill.; and several great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Gloria Hoovler and Edith Moss Williams Anderson; a brother Jack Anderson; an infant brother Elmer Edwin (Buddy) Anderson; and a special friend Arnold Rubin.

Friends will be received from 9:30 to 11 a.m., Saturday, April 21, 2012, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 21, 2012, at the funeral home with Pastor Arlene Sweitzer officiating.

Interment will be at Circle Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made, in Mrs. MacKenzie’s memory, to the St. Peters United Church of Christ, 203 Orchard Ave., Punxsutawney, Pa. 15767.
