PUNXSUTAWNEY — Jefferson, Clarion and Armstrong counties remained under a flood watch until Sunday evening as melting snow and the threat of rain could create the possibility of flooding.
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh — where Mayor Luke Ravenstahl had already declared a state of emergency Wednesday — advised that small streams that are now swollen from melting snow over the past few days may begin to flood beginning Sunday evening.
Heavier rain forecasted for Saturday coupled with more rain Sunday could increase the risk of small streams flooding.
Forecasts have called for rain Wednesday and Thursday, but the rain never occurred.
A flood watch means that there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts of snow melt and rainfall.
