Gary Lee States, 62, Big Run, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at UPMC-Presbyterian Montefiore, Pittsburgh.
He was born July 22, 1947, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Donald D. and Helen N. (Feicht) States.
Mr. States was a career officer, having served in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy.
He served as a chief in the Vietnam War in the U.S. Navy.
After his military career, he retired from the Pennsylvania Career Link in Punxsutawney.
Mr. States was a member of the Reynoldsville Fraternal Order of Eagles, the American Legion and the BPOE.
He was a member of the Elim Lutheran Church in Anita.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Gretchen States of New Orleans, La.; two brothers, Richard D. States and wife Lucy of Punxsutawney, and Larry States and wife Alice of Beech Grove, Ind.; a sister, Sue Rosner of Speedway, Ind.; a step-son, Tom Bray and wife Jennifer of Pittsburgh; a sister, Janet Kennedy of Lake Wales, Fla.; two grandsons, Owen and Hunter Bray, both of Etna; a brother-in-law, James Yenzi; a sister-in-law, Connie Bowser and husband Al; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jon A. States and Donald States; and a sister, Carolyn Yenzi.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at the Richard L. Fait Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at the funeral home with the Rev. Alfred H. Kimmel officiating.
Full military honors will be given by the Jefferson County Honor Guard following the funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Elim Lutheran Church, Anita.
