CLYMER — A shooting incident that claimed the life of a Clymer woman Tuesday afternoon ended with the alleged gunman apparently taking his own life, police said.

Indiana-based Pennsylvania State Police said they spent much of Tuesday searching for Rodney J. Wagner, 28, Dixonville, after he allegedly shot and killed Kimberly Ann Romagnia, 40, in her Clymer home.

Indiana County Coroner Mike Baker said Clymer Borough Police found Romagnia’s body after a 911 call was made from her residence around 12:07 p.m.

State police said Wagner arrived at Romagnia’s residence some time during the mid to late morning Tuesday, entered the residence, located Romagnia and shot her in the living room area while other family members slept upstairs.

Baker said people at the scene told police that Romagnia’s mother, who did not live at the residence, received a call just minutes before from Wagner, who told her that he had shot his daughter and was about to end his own life.

The call ended quickly, and nothing more was heard from Wagner, Baker said.

Baker pronounced Romagnia dead of an apparent gunshot wound to the head at 1 p.m. at the scene.

Three people were said to be upstairs at the time of the shooting, Baker said, but none saw Wagner, who apparently entered and fled through a back door. None of the people upstairs reported hearing the gunshot, Baker said.

Police said after shooting Romagnia, Wagner fled the scene, and police began searching for him, trying to locate his vehicle and possible destination.

After recovering Wagner’s vehicle and believing that they had him surrounded in the area, the PSP Special Emergency Response Team responded to the scene found him dead in his residence along Route 403, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Baker said Wagner was thought to be dead for several hours when he was discovered, and that he had been involved in a relationship with Romagnia, who ended it a short time ago.

Baker made the notifications to the next of kin for both subjects, police said.
