REYNOLDSVILLE — State police are asking residents to be vigilant and refrain from picking up hitchhikers after a man believed to be armed fled from a traffic stop along Interstate 80 Thursday.
DuBois-based Pennsylvania State Police said the incident occurred around 8:48 a.m. Thursday at the Reynoldsville rest area along Interstate 80 westbound.
Police said a man fled on foot from a traffic stop at the rest area. Police said while they believe he has no other mode of transportation, he is thought to be armed with a handgun and dangerous.
Police said the man is described as white, about 36 years old, 5 feet, 11 inches tall, about 185 pounds, with dirty blonde hair and wearing a Carhart-type jacket.
Police closed the westbound rest area.
Police said residents should watch their property and outer buildings and contact PSP-DuBois at 814-371-4652 regarding any suspicious activity.
Motorists are also advised not to pick up any hitchhikers or stop for any subjects.
