PUNXSUTAWNEY — Four incumbent members of Punxsy Borough Council were victorious in holding off a challenger in Tuesday's general election.
The top vote-getter for the four seats was incumbent Michael J. Porada, with 606 votes, who was cross-filed as a Democrat and Republican.
Also retaining their council seats were incumbents Larry Chenoga, Republican, with 528 votes; Republican William H. Spencer, 506 votes; and sitting president Susan Glessner, with 474 votes.
Democratic challenger, Michele P. Lorenzo, missed earning a council seat, as she was the fifth-place vote-getter with 364 votes.
Incumbent Republican Mayor James Patrick Wehrle was unopposed and received 684 votes. Incumbent tax collector Susan Mitchell received 722 votes.
Punxsy 1 constable Daniel K. Leeman received 214 votes; and Punxsy 2 constable, Michael Benninger, received 135 votes. Punxsy 3 Constable Paul Pape received 142 votes.
In the races for the Punxsy Area School Board, five candidates seeking to gain or retain seats were unopposed.
For Punxsy Region II, which includes Oliver and Ringgold townships, Timblin and Worthville, Lesa Conner received 264 votes. In Punxsy Region III, which includes McCalmont and Young townships, incumbent Gary L. Conrad received 435 votes.
In Punxsy Region IV, which includes Punxsy Precinct 3, incumbent Francis J. Molinaro received 193 votes.
In Punxsy Region V — which includes Punxsy Precinct 2 — incumbent Robert Pascuzzo received 182 votes, while in Punxsy Region VI, Roberta M. Dinsmore received 282 votes.
Conner will assume the seat of current board President Kirby Starr, while Dinsmore will succeed current board Vice-President Ron Voris.
Both Starr and Voris were defeated in the spring primary, and thus, did not make it onto the fall ballot.
