BROOKVILLE — The ongoing budget issues in Pennsylvania could have effects on Jefferson County, but the possibility of layoffs or delays to projects remains low.
According to comm-ission Chairman Paul Corbin, some programs will be affected, such as Children & Youth Services, which has several contracts expiring at the end of June.
The county will not allow the contracts to expire, so they will be paid for out of the county's general fund.
"We won't cancel those contracts because those services will still be needed," Corbin said.
Additionally, several reimbursements due to the county from the state will be delayed until there is a working budget, causing more strain on the county.
"We really rely on those reimbursements even though they're every four or six months," Corbin said. "This is going to put us even more in a cash crunch."
Despite the difficulties, he said he doesn't believe that any county employees will be laid off, as long as the state has a budget in the near future.
"At this time, we aren't considering that," he said. "However, if this were to drag out for a while, that is something that we would have to look at."
