Lady Chucks finish season with 18-2 record Print E-mail

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Lady Chucks softball team wrapped up their regular season Saturday with an impressive victory, beating visiting Clearfield 7-3. With the win, Punxsy finished the season with an 18-2 record.

The Lady Chucks ended a scoreless tie in the third inning, scoring five runs in the frame. Punxsy added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-0 lead into the final inning of play.

Clearfield attempted a late rally, scoring three runs in the seventh, but it wasn't enough.

Allie Miller had a big day for the Lady Chucks, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Angie Laska went 2-for-3, while Sara Ruehle added two hits of her own. Both of Miller and Ruehle's two hits were doubles.

As a team, Punxsy totaled 10 hits to Clearfield's four.

Kelsey Cook picked up the win for Punxsy on the mound, while Andrea Butler was given the loss for Clearfield.

The Punxsy junior-varsity team had similar success during its final game of the season Saturday, taking down Clearfield 10-0 in six innings.

The win improved Punxsy's record to 17-3 for the season.

Shawna Crago had a big day on the mound and at the plate for Punxsy. Crago pitched six scoreless innings and totaled 14 strikeouts.

Crago also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run.

The Lady Chucks finished with 16 hits, with Ashley Barenchick, Hannah Neal and Crago each supplying two hits.

Friday, May 15
Lady Chucks junior-varsity 8, State College 1

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The junior-varsity Lady Chucks softball team picked up another solid victory Friday, defeating State College at home 8-1.

Leading the way for Punxsy on the mound was Randa Depp. Depp pitched 6 2/3-innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out nine.

Shawna Crago had a solid day at the plate, recording three hits, including a triple. Depp helped her own cause with two hits in the game.
